Lostboy! AKA Promo Tour

"This music is built to be played live. I'm convinced it will sound great." - Jim.

The initial idea was to kick the tour off in Japan, or even intertwine Simple Minds and Lostboy! appearances during the summer. "On second thoughts. Whenever Lostboy! AKA makes the live debut it will be in a small room in Glasgow. I may no longer know exactly where I live, but I know where I am from - and from where I get whatever strength's that I have. The city of Glasgow plays a big part in that and for that reason among others it will be Glasgow that gets the first chance to see and hear what Lostboy! is up to." By mid-February, the tour plans had settled into their final guise, with ten live dates at small capacity clubs.

"Why so few shows? In the week following the album release I do eight shows in ten days. These are "showcase gigs" to let the fans, promoters, media, etc. judge the potential of Lostboy!." - Jim. But it had to be a brief tour, as Jim was back on the road with Simple Minds in June.

"I plan to play some very rare Simple Minds tracks the band would not normally include in our set from our 1979 debut album, Life In A Day. Musically, I think they slot in perfectly with the direction Lostboy! AKA is going in." - Jim

"Strange! Despite that Lostboy! AKA is new on every level i.e. new songs, new band, new crew, new kind of venues, yet none of this feels remotely strange. It feels that already it has been part of me for a long time. The Wait Parts 1+2 for example, I feel I have been playing all my life. Refugee and Shadowland likewise. All of them in fact!" - Jim

Jim mentioned the possibility of Concert Online recording gigs and offering a USB stick of select tracks. This idea was quietly shelved, although the xxx gig was recorded with tracks being offered on a Lostboy! release later in the year.

Advert for the Scottish gigs.

AAA pass for the tour. The laminate features artwork on the front with number and all tour the dates on the back.

An invitation-only preview gig. Tickets could only be won from the Lostboy! AKA website, various newspapers or Radio Clyde. Jim came on stage before the show and spoke to the audience before the event kicked off, and explained that it was a rehearsal, so they might tackle some songs more than once - but he needn't have bothered as they just flew through the set-list. All the lucky punters received a badge and special numbered card as Lostboy mementos.

"Lostboy is a Glasgow creation and it felt right that I should make the live debut there. In addition to that and seeing as all the city has given me, it feels right that I should play the first ever show for free!" - Jim

Johnny And The Self Abusers T-shirts were available at the gig. These were simple white T-shirts with the band's name.

"Everybody rightly talks about the history of King Tut's but few people ever mention it had been a great venue called "Saints And Sinners" years before and an important part of the Glasgow music scene. My first band Johnny and the Self Abusers played our second gig there. It was a real big deal for me - and we had other great nights there. So I look on Tut's as an Abusers' gig. I think the show will be weirder for the audience than it will be for me." - Jim

"Every bit as hot outside as Glasgow and therefore bound to be another sweat soaked one to night at the Borderline. I am having a ball and it continues with each gig. The band are doing so well considering that until a few days ago they had never played with each other. Proud to have them on stage with me. How lucky that through out my career I have had great musicians that I rely on so much!" - Jim

"Hamburg was the first European city that Simple Minds ever played in back in 1979. This was to be so with Lostboy! AKA also as we stepped up on stage tonight. The audience as warm as we could have hoped for and the venue itself was the best of the tour so far. I still cannot believe that this band have only been playing live together for one week - they are pretty amazing really!" - Jim

"Maybe the best performance yet? Crowd were with us throughout the set. Tonight we played an 18 song set that lasted for one hour and forty minutes. I think Lostboy! AKA is giving good value for the ticket price. If so that would make me even more happier than I am currently!" - Jim

The audience really seemed to feel the same kind of potential that I do within Lostboy! AKA. Thanks for this special night!" - Jim

"Even though tomorrow is the last date of this inaugural tour, the Lostboy AKA! were still intent on keeping things fresh by adding Mr. Silversmith to the set. Could maybe become future show stopper!" - Jim

"Thirty-one years since I last stood on the tiny stage in Melkweg. On that occasion I felt a certainty right through to my bones that Simple Minds would go on to do very special things. I felt the same kind of certainty last night that all was possible with the future of Lostboy! AKA. How fortunate I am to have both these great things in my life! More fortunate even more to have all your support." - Jim

Charlie joined the band and played on What Goes On.

"Great to have Charlie on stage with Lostboy! AKA for last night's final gig of the tour. Charlie's support is appreciated and I am now looking forward to spending the next few months with him and the other guys while returning to the "mothership" - also known as Simple Minds." - Jim

"All over or at least it will be after tonight's Amsterdam show. These first few dates were a test to see how things could workout live for Lostboy! AKA. Challenge has been met and now I look forward to the bigger fully fledged tour in October. thanks for letting Lostboy! AKA into your heart!" - Jim
