In the song Shadowland you sing: Come back out of the shadow – is that somehow talking to yourself and encouraging yourself?
I think that’s true. I think it’s me talking to the... also leading on from talking to this character I left behind, [which has] come back. And me saying I’m not afraid to show it. I’m not afraid to show that I want to be naïve again or spontaneous or as you said earlier, the obvious thing that this could be a risk. Yes! But no in my mind, no! I’m doing it! I’m not thinking about "Are the traffic lights red or green?" So, I think I am talking to a bit of a psyche.

The single remix was prepared by Cenzo Townshend who'd previously mixed Rockets and Stars Will Lead The Way into radio friendly forms.

The lyrics in the album booklet were slightly different to the final edit. They include half a verse which was omitted from the mix:
