With Jim settled in Italy, it wasn't long before he became friendly with the Naples based
Planet Funk. A collorboration resulted in One Step Closer, one of the standout tracks from the
Cry album.
A slightly different version of the song appears on the
Album Sampler. This was intended to be the master mix, but was erroneously swapped with
another at the last moment.
Planet Funk released the track on their own album, Non Zero Sumness, as the opener
Where Is The Max? However, it appeared as an instrumental and was missing the opening majestic chords.
They eventually released the track as One Step Closer, with Jim's vocals,
on their own single as Planet Funk featuring Simple Minds.
