Simple Minds
Simple Minds are Jim Kerr (vocals), Charlie Burchill (guitar and violin), Mick MacNeil (keyboards), Derek Forbes (bass) and Brian McGee (drums) and were formed early this year in Glasgow. Three (Jim, Charlie and Brian) were part of Johnny And The Self Abusers (who released Saints And Sinners on Chiswick last year) and Derek is from The Subhumans.

It's always difficult to describe a group's music, particularly a new group who have not yet recorded and thus have no track-record for comparison. There have been many parallels drawn; names as diverse as Television, The Velvet Underground even Cockney Rebel has been used, but if bits of each of these, and more, are there, none are particularly obvious. Simple Minds use the spirit and atmosphere of these bands, rather than their notes. Because it's their songs themselves that matter.

They range from the more commercial (i.e. with an immediate hook) such as Chelsea Girl or Take Me To The Angels to the completely mysterious in Murder Story and Pleasantly Disturbed.

Simple Minds are currently playing dates in Scotland, building a live sound and image, and, at the same time, attracting considerable critical acclaim.
