The album was originally suggested by new manager Clive Banks who took on an exhausted and over-worked
Simple Minds. The idea was simply to release a compilation album during a well-deserved year off.
The original track listing, which was a collaboration between Simple Minds, their management and
Virgin Records included 40 tracks. It was thought no-one would purchase a box-set, so they continued to
whittle down the selection.
The final decision was the bands.
It was decided not to go for a 'Best Of', and instead opt for the more obvious singles collection.
The album was digitally remastered from the original master tapes by Chris Blair at
Abbey Road Studios.
