sometimes when it rains (demo)

composer
Words and music: Simple Minds

background
Sometime When It Rains was developed at the intial Loch Earn writing sessions in September and October 1987. It was one of the more euphoric demos from the period.

"We had three versions, each one with a different verse. It was structured like Wall Of Love: verse, chorus, verse, chorus, middle eight - and it would change atmosphere in the coda, more abstract, darker, more like old Simple Minds" - Charlie, Street Fighting Years songbook

It was worked on at Sarm between March and May 1988. Unlike many of the other songs being developed at that time, it never had any lyrics.

The coda, which was present on some of the versions of the song, was instantly recognisable as Take A Step Back. By May, this had been separated from the parent song, and was being worked on as a separate track.

Work on Sometime When It Rains stopped in May 1988 and it remains unreleased.
