background
"I think the first track we finished didn't make it onto the album. It was titled Dusseldorf Beat because it had
a rhythm track like "La Dusseldorf", the experimental german band from the seventies. It had a great vibe but it
didn't come to much" - Jim - Street Fighting Years book.
One of the more euphoric demos from this period, Dusseldorf Beat is a lengthy
instrumental demo. Very much in the style of
the Street Fighting Years material, it features
Charlie,
Mick and
John and
Mel. The track does have a discernable
verse-chorus structure and is classic Simple Minds.
It was briefly worked on at Sarm in March 1988 but soon discarded. It was never given lyrics.
