reggae (demo)

composers
Written by: Kerr / Burchill / MacNeil

background
Raggae was the second instrumental demo version of I Wish You Were Here and first appeared on Jams #1 which was recorded at Barwell Court in January-March 1985. It had been demoed for Sparkle In The Rain as Old Chapel Song #6 but was given the title Raggae for the first time on the Jams #1 tape box.

It was a fast-tempo instrumental and featured almost all the elements and arrangements of the final song.

The first take was false start, but the second take featured the entire song before coming to a hesitant end. The third take was slightly slower and looser with more improvision before its sudden end in studio chat. The fourth and final take of this session was the most accomplished and complete but the band still had to work out a coda and satisfactory ending.

The fifth take (which appears on Jams #2) is almost there as the coda is now in place although Mick is sitll improvising. The next take included lyrics and Jim announced it as Footsteps.
