It was a cover version of Gloria which "rebooted" Simple Minds in the 2000s. Recorded in October 2000, Gloria 2000 as it became known, was the first cover version of the song recorded by Simple Minds. This unreleased version included elements of the final mix, in addition to samples from Van Morrison's original recording and audience noise.

Whilst recording Neon Lights and Cry, the band returned to the song in May 2001, and with the help of producers/remixers Phunk Investigation, removed the samples, crowd noise and other elements, giving the song the electronic groove heard on the album.
