background
The title of this song from their third demo tape was given as Special View She Sells To You by Billy Sloan. However, a cassette copy of the demos sent out by Brian Hogg at Zoom Records uses the shorter Special View.

The demo recording was unusually sparse by the band's standards at the time and Mick uncharacteristically misses a few chords. This suggests the song was relatively new when they came to record it in December 1978.

At the end of the next month, they were formally recording the song at Farmyard Studios during the Life In A Day sessions.

It was also briefly played live during the Life In A Day tour.

lyrics
The lyrics have never been published. This is a transcription from the demo and studio versions. Parts in square brackets [] are included on the demo only.

You know I hear you call - it's a baby doll - it's so unfair.
You know the sun has gone and it won't take long and I'll meet you there.
So you can wash your heart, you can play the part, just watch the tide.
The sheltered shore, the one of love once more, meets the sea of pride.

Because love is a light that is shining on her.
It could be an illusion - she don't seem to care.
People get frightened [everywhere].

I feel the aftermath, I see the mad man's laugh, it's such an evil tune.
You know the special view, the one she sells to you, no more consumes.
So don't slip away, into another day, no more afraid.
Because ???, so fool a pity, not for the things she said.

Because love is a light that is shining on her.
It could be an illusion - she don't seem to care.
People get frightened [everywhere].
