background
This title was the English translation of Jean Cocteaus' Les Infants Terribles. Jim was heavily influenced by the author, and references to his work turned up in other early songs, most obviously in The Cocteau Twins.

Children Of The Game was the working title for the Life In A Day album. It was also believed to be the working title for the Life In A Day song, but the existence of this recording, found on one of the album's multi-tracks, confirms that it was recorded as a track in its own right.

Imagine a slower-tempo Someone, which occasional synth trills from Garden Of Hate, and you're close to Children Of The Game.

The song was recorded late in the sessions as it was one of the three tracks recorded at The Townhouse after the majority of the album had been committed to tape after the initial sessions at Farmhouse Studios. It was recorded before the 23rd February 1979, along with other late contenders All For You and Destiny.

Unlike the other two songs, Children Of The Game was left unfinished with only the backing track recorded.
