background
This song was recorded for Grafitti Soul.

"For example as I type we are working on an idea titled 'Blood Type O'. This piece features the sound of dulcimers and some other strange reed type instruments." - Jim

"Blood Type O was co-written we Jez Coad who's the producer of the album and our previous one Black And White. And Jez is one of the reasons people listening to the new album are saying "Where's all the new energy coming from? Where's all this new life coming through?" And it's come through people like Jez Coad, Gordon Goudie (who co-wrote Rockets) and Andy Gillespie. Finally, over a long time, and this isn't taking anything away from the original members of Simple Minds who brought so much, we've got a group of guys who are no longer in the shadows of the original guys. They're bringing their own ideas, they're bringing fire to the thing, and you can hear it in a track like Blood Type O." - Jim

The end of the song features the Skype ringtone. "David Bowie has a song, "Life On Mars", at the end you hear a telephone. Mott The Hoople, a band we love, at the end of one of their tracks you hear a telephone. There's three or four others. We always liked this telephone thing. And so with this Skype thing we thought... I wonder if we're the first band to put Skype in a song. I like the Skype tone as well; it's musical." - Jim

(Although telephones and whisperings also featured in East At Easter on the Verona video).

lyrics
To the left and to the right, I can’t believe that we would fight,
It’s all so mediocre anyway.
Take me down unto your road where I could filter through the code.
There is no other way that’s better paid.

You do it so well,
Blood Type O - it’s all so long ago.
You do it so well,
You’re Blood Type O - it's all imaginary.
But you do it so well.

You build it up and you burn it down.
You take the smile and make it frown.
I don’t know why you ever wont look back.

If it was ever up to me,
I’d steal the crown and you would see.
I’d take the fight that’s here in front of you.

You do it so well,
Blood Type O - it's all so long ago.
You do it so well.
Blood Type O - it’s all imaginary.

But you do it so well.

You’re Blood Type O.

You do it so well.
It’s all so long ago.
It’s all imaginary.
Blood Type O.
