background
Pinball, or rather She's A River, was one of the later songs to emerge during the Good News From The Next World sessions. It doesn't appear on the early demo tapes from 1992.

The earliest recording, probably from early 1993, is an instrumental. It's instantly recognisable by its melody and arrangement - although the sampled 'brass' synths used throughout the song would gradually disappear as it progressed.

Jim and Charlie started working on it the during the sessions at Bonny Wee Studios in October 1993, Windmill Lane in April 1994, and finally at Westlake in May 1994. Throughout all these sessions, the song was logged on tape labels as Pinball, before finally gaining the name She's A River for the final recordings at Westlake that June.
