background
"Met up with Charlie last week to demo some of his new tunes. Seemed to be on a roll as we worked on three new songs that had us feeling very good. Working titles are Stagefright, Ulysses and Fire Fighter. Already Stagefright had both agreeing that it would make a great show opener!" " - Jim, May 2009.

The song was originally a demo called Only The Brave Survive On Chicken Street.

It was first played, in its initial arrangement and as Stagefright, at the Bataclan, Paris on the 18th June 2010, where it was the show opener.

The album version was recorded at Sphere Recording Studios, London in September 2010.

"We reckon it turned out pretty good, we also think that it will in time become one of those stand-out live tracks that we are always happy to be adding to a set that is already jammed with songs that were seemingly conjured especially to be played live. But it is only through time, and of course repeated playing, that songs seem to blow up and become the specialized anthems that Simple Minds are sort of known for." - Jim

It was initially made available as a Facebook exclusive download on the 3rd June 2011.

"Meanwhile, it’s good to see such a positive reaction from the various posts on line. It certainly seems that people take notice and appreciate the fact that we never want to continue with the same style time and time again. We are always looking to be moving ahead, even if we like to incorporate some little resonance from our past."

"In any case, within a period of uncertainty, where no-one knows where the music industry is headed, all I know is that within our particular story, Simple Minds are determined to be continuously adding new pages, new twists to the plot." - Jim

The official lyrics include the line "Drunk all the finest labels, got stoned and then unable, to fuck beneath the table" whilst the sung version is "Drunk all the finest labels, got stoned and then unable, To get beneath the table."

It finally gained a physical release on the Celebrate: The Greatest Hits + 3CD package.

lyrics
Death by curiosity, strangled down upon on his knee,
Tell me how, that it could be,
It’s you who gives me stagefright.

And even though the saints would swear,
That lovers like a leather chair,
Is no point but I do declare,
It’s you who gives me stagefright.

It's you, it's you, it's you, you, you give me stagefright.
It's you, it's you, it's you, you, you take the spotlight.

Time is now, time is late,
Raise your hands, that feels great.
Come with me, take me there,
Open arms, open air.

Drunk all the finest labels, got stoned and then unable,
To get beneath the table,
But that’s just what they’d try to do.

But if you tried to stop them,
He’d go to his apartment,
And girls would gather round,
With pit-bull dogs and high-heel shoes.

It's you, it's you, it's you, you, you give me stagefright.
It's you, it's you, it's you, you, you take the spotlight.

Time is now, time is late,
Raise your hands, that feels great.
Come with me, take me there,
Open arms, open air.

This moment.
This moment.
You’ll take me.
You’ll take me.

No time for hesitations, no twisted explanations,
Only one destination,
Paradise - inside your room.

And if you tried to stop them,
They’d go to their apartment,
And girls would gather round,
With pit-bull dogs and high-heel shoes.

It's you, it's you, it's you, you, you give me stagefright.
It's you, it's you, it's you, you, you take the spotlight.

This moment.
This moment.
You’ll take me there.

Time is now, time is late,
Raise your hands,that feels great.

Come with me, take me there,
Open arms, open air.

Time is now, [It's you]
Time is late, [It's you]
Raise your hands, [It's you]
That feels great, [You, you give me stagefright]

Come with me, [It's you]
Take me there, [It's you]
Open arms, [It's you]
Open air.

It's you.
