Originally showing promise as a professional footballer, Jim's younger brother Paul turned his
back on a sporting career, disillusioned by the infighting and politics.
Also interested in music (he was once smuggled into Johnny And The Self Abusers gigs in
Brian McGee's bass drum), he joined Simple Minds as a roadie for the second leg of
the Empires And Dance tour. He was shown no favours: he got the job himself and worked hard with
the rest of the crew.
