additional information
Virgin promoted the UK leg of the New Gold Tour by
issuing Someone Somewhere (In Summertime) on no less than four different formats.
The 12" featured a lengthy extended version of the title track with a new
introductory guitar solo by Charlie, a BBC session recording of
King Is White And In The Crowd, and the choppy instrumental
Soundtrack For Every Heaven which was recorded during the album
sessions but was never quite finished.
Unfortunately whilst King Is White And In The Crowd and
Soundtrack For Every Heaven made it to CD, the album version of
Someone Somewhere (In Summertime) appeared instead of the extended mix.
Luckily Ben Barclay (who’d just published a Simple Minds discography in Record Collector) was
able to point out the error to Virgin, who then used the extended version for all subsequent pressings of the Theme.
The sleeve notes were also slightly incorrect with reference to Soundtrack For Every Heaven. Whilst
it does appear on the Virgin budget compilation of rare dance tracks and remixes Methods Of Dance Volume 2
(Virgin OVED 7), it was available both as a cassette and LP.
