After the conclusion of the Real Life tour, it was decided everyone
needed a well deserved break, and Jim,
Charlie, new manager
Clive Banks and Virgin decided to release a
compilation of singles in 1992 before writing and recording sessions could start in 1993.
The album Glittering Prize 81/92 appeared in November 1992 and was promoted
by a double ‘A’ side release: Love Song / Alive And Kicking. Whilst
Alive And Kicking appeared in its album form,
Love Song was remixed (slightly) by Gregg Jackman and
Charlie Burchill.
The single was initially issued in three formats (7", cassette single and CD) with a second limited edition CD released a week later
featuring four live tracks from the now well documented Barrowlands concert.
Whilst no commercial 12" was ever issued, a two track promotional 12"
featured both the title tracks. This Theme was based on that (with Alive And Kicking being omitted as
it'd already appeared on Theme 11), plus the addition of the four live tracks from the limited edition CD.
