additional information
In September 2008, the Daily Mail in association with EMI gave away twelve complete
albums by artists from the 1980s. On the 12th September, the promoted album was Once Upon A Time.
"Today you can pick up the next FREE CD in our brilliant new 80s Colletion - Once Upon A Time by Simple Minds"
"Hailing from Glasgow, the group evolved from a post-punk art-work band influenced by Roxy Music into a grand, epic-sounding
pop group along the lines of U2. They produced several critically acclaimed albums in the early 1980s,
and later some significant, politically inspired work."
"Simple Minds have secured a string of successful hit singles over the years, the best known being
their No. 1 woirldwide hit single Don't You (Forget About Me)."
"Founding members Jim Kerr (vocals) and
Charlie Burchill (guitar), along with drummer
Mel Gaynor, are the core of the band which currently features
Mark Taylor/Andy Gillespie on keyboards
and Eddie Duffy on bass guitar."
The full album was packaged in a flimsy card sleeve which reproduced the LP's artwork (along with Daily Mail
in the bottom right corner). None of the original credits nor lyrics were included.
As it was a free CD, all copies were marked as promos.
An almost identical version was given away with the Daily Irish Mail (see below).
