alive and kicking 12" promo (label)

tracks
A1. Alive And Kicking(5:24)
B1. Alive And Kicking[Instrumental](6:05)

catalogue
Virgin VS 817-12 DJ
VS 817-12 A1-2U-1-1 MASTERDISK//VS 817-12 B1-U-1-1

format
12" with promo black and white paper labels in die-cut black sleeve.

release date
September 1985

additional information
Virgin planned to release a 7" promo (as seen on the master box labels and by the promotional tape below) but switched at the last minute to a 12" promo. No master or production tape was prepared. It's the same as the commerical pressing (Virgin VS 817-12) but simply has different custom labels and is packaged in a die-cut plain black sleeve.

Enough copies were pressed for it to still be relatively common today.

Some of the promos were signed and dated next to the matrix number: "Mark Richards 26/09/85".

Press releases from Rush Release Limited were included with some copies.

A handful mispressed with the B-side labels on both sides; a curio, but of interest to collectors.

additional information
This promotional tape was a direct copy of the single's production master. Even the labeling was the same.

It shows how a 7" promo was being considered. This would've included the edit on the A-side with the album version on the B-side. By coincidence this was the same track listing as the A&M 7" promo.

It also reveals the confusion surrounding the release of the single, revealing how the rejection of the Bob Clearmountain remixes lead to the same tracks being repeated across the formats.
