uk albums (dccs)

The Digital Compact Cassette was introduced by Philips and Matsushita in late 1992 as a replacement for the older analog compact cassette format. It was an attempt to compete with Sony's MiniDisc and fill a gap in the commerical market left by the failure of commercial DAT.

It was cheaper than DAT and backward compatible with cassette.

The DCC was not a success and joined the DAT and MiniDisc formats on the commercial scrap pile.

Virgin were extremely quick to try the potential of the new format, issuing the just-released Glittering Prize 81/92 compilation on DCC. It was the only Simple Minds album released on the format.
