Lostboy! AKA Electroset Tour

"Full on Lostboy! AKA Electroset rehearsals today with Simon and Sarah, plenty to be getting through on top of the songs we already did in summer. At least three brand new songs and some revisits of stuff from Empires and Dance. All this plus a covers of Dylan and Frankie Valli nonetheless. Will be intense!" - Jim, 11th October

"Great day at rehearsal with both Simon and Sarah in sparkling form. Simon as always had prepared all so well in advance which meant we flew through the workload. Plenty of surprises and I will get to them later. However seeing Sarah nail the Empires and Dance medley of both This Fear Of Gods and Twist/Run/Repulsion, all in one take rendered me speechless!" - Jim, 11th October

Proposed set-list for Ghent:
Main Set: Kill Or Cure? / Shadowland / She Fell In Love With Silence / Bulletproof Heart / Spaceface - I Travel / Karma To This Rain / This Fear Of Gods / Cynical Heart / Sense Of Discovery / In Every Heaven / Remember Asia / Red Letter Day - Room - Rock And Roll
Encore: The Wait / Broken Glass Park / Teardrop / Refugee / The Night

The plan for the UK gigs was to add new songs to the set-list to keep it fresh. Around 35 songs were prepared. Those not performed (yet) but soundchecked were Celebrate, The Night, Spirited Away, Honest Town, This Earth That You Walk Upon, Champagne Moon, Four Letter Word and Neon Lights. A new version of Homosapien was also prepared.

Unfortunately Jim's mother Irene became ill with a recurrence of cancer. The tour was postponed after the Irish dates so Jim could be with her during her treatment.

The tour became impossible to reschedule with new Lostboy! and Simple Minds activities already planned for 2011 so the final dates were regrettably cancelled on the 4th January 2011.

Kill Or Cure? was given away as a free download as a preview of both the Electroset Tour and the forthcoming album.

"It's October and on the 18th the Lostboy! AKA Electroset Tour will begin in Ghent, Belgium. As a thanks to all who are coming, and all who have supported me so far, I will be making available a free download of a brand new and original Lostboy! AKA track" - Jim, 2nd October.

A Remember Asia promotional CD was distributed in Belgium to advertise two appearances by the band during the tour.

And a Lostboy! promotional CD was distributed more widely to support the tour.

"Thanks to another encouraging audience! Each night and with each show the set gets a bit tighter, a bit more polished even. Influenced by Simon's opinion I changed the running order tonight slightly, I had the impression that it flowed all the more evenly as a result. Oslo tomorrow!" - Jim, October 21st 2010

Many thanks to Steen for the set-list and and Steen and Stef for the pictures.

"A real little venue. A city centre bar really! Going to be packed and very sweaty. Did Dylan's Lay Lady Lay at soundcheck and will debut it tonight. Really looking forward to this show. I know it will be the best yet!" - Jim, October 22nd 2010

"Indeed it went as well as I thought it would. Lay Lady Lay felt very nice, I think it is the first time I have ever sang a Dylan song! Meanwhile all the Lostboy! tunes seem to get stronger each time - always a good sign. I loved this small venue, a real rock n roll bar with a good audience! Pretty much perfect!" - Jim, October 22nd 2010

Thanks to Stef for the set-list and the pictures.

Bring On The Dancing Horses and The Night were both rehearsed during the soundcheck.

"A lot quieter than last night. During the encore I walked out to the back to watch Sarah Brown perform - she was astonishing! Thanks to all who came as always!" - Jim, October 23rd 2010

Thanks to Stef for the set-list and the pictures.

"After tonight Lostboy! AKA breaks off before picking the tour up again in Belfast on 10th of November. For the Irish/UK leg we look to add around another five songs to choose from depending on the night. Among them:
Champagne Moon by Lostboy! AKA,
Believer by Lostboy! AKA,
Celebrate by Simple Minds,
Sleeping Girl by Simple Minds,
and The Streets Of Philadelphia by Bruce Springsteen
" - Jim, October 23rd 2010

"Heading back [to Scotland] after five gigs in six days, pretty good going really! Thanks to Simon, Sarah, Martin and Kevin for being out here with me. I think we made people happy over the last days and that at the end of the day is why I am doing this. Mission accomplished!" - Jim, October 24th 2010

This gig appeared in the initial listings but quietly disappeared.

"Loving listening to Simon Hayward's LOSTBOY! AKA's "cosmic version" of Swimming Towards The Sun. Will most certainly be doing it live on tour starting next month" - Jim, October 28th 2010

"There's a week until the start of the Irish/UK tour on the 10th of November. Since Scandinavia I've been considering other songs to add. So far Simon has worked on versions of Champagne Moon, Believer and Honest Town all newly written over the last few weeks. In addition he has reworked Celebrate, Sleeping Girl and Swimming Towards The Sun. I worked on a Staham piece called Blood Diamonds. All due to be heard on the tour at some point!" - Jim, November 4th 2010

"Songs To Rework: Little point in playing tunes Simple Minds regularly play. No point! Being so kind of a waste for anyone to go calling for beauties like The American, Waterfront, Glittering Prize or any of the songs that are consistently played year after year. Genuine excitement however in reworking songs from the Simple Minds catalogue that rarely feature, including some not played for decades. Okay! Hope that explains things!" - Jim, November 4th 2010

"Big week up ahead: Lostboy! AKA starts his tour in Belfast on Wednesday night. Meanwhile Lostboy's little feisty mamma begins some very intensive treatments. Wish us the best please! And let's wish the best for all who are dealing with this epidemic called cancer!" - Jim, November 8th 2010

"[He] shook my hand - nearly broke it! "What are ye doin' in tiny venues?" I told him I was working on something that still needs to be developed, never mind discovered. Needed to go out and put the hours in. Cover the miles both physically and emotionally. Get to know Lostboy! AKA from inside out. "Yeah!" he said. "But the song are just f**king massive and I sang every word!" - Jim, November 11th 2010

"Always feel good in Cork and tonight was no different. Looking forward to next time already. Sorry if I got a little too angsty to a few people who stood in front and seemed to be only intertested in taking pictures or fiming non-stop throughout. By all means take a few snaps but FFS, then put the cameras away and enjoy the music in real time! It's so boring to play to cameras. I want to play to people." - Jim, November 11th 2010

"Almost a year ago tonight I was prpearing to go stage in an arena in Split, Croatia. Tonight its a tiny Arts Centre in Wexford Ireland. Loved it then. Loving it now. Keeping on doing it whether it is to 10 people or 10,000. All the same to me when I am in the heart of the song!" - Jim, November 12th 2010

"I would liked to have stayed longer. Much longer. Instead we are driving on to Dublin and of course looking forward to that also. The gig in Wexford was fab! Swimming Towards The Sun sounded great even if I made a pig's ear of the intro." - Jim, November 12th 2010

"Last gig of the Irish tour for Lostboy! AKA and as expected it all went very well. Special treat for the generous audience was our version of Echo And The Bunnymen's Bring On The Dancing Horses. Great reaction to the set that lasted approx 1 hour and 45 mins. Saw quite a few familiar faces - thanks to all who traveled to see Lostboy! AKA. Your dedication and support is amazing!" - Jim, November 13th 2010
