This section is for information only. It is solely intended as a record of Mick's archive in the hope that some of this material may be eventually released officially.

Between 1982 and 1990, Mick MacNeil amassed a collection of over three hundred tapes of demos, rehearsals, jams, early mixes, live concerts and song ideas. The vast majority of this archive has never been released.

The recordings start with the Empires And Dance demos (released on Silver Box) and end with the Real Life demos (which presumably were sent to Mick to coax him back to the band).

Unfortunately no sleeves or content listings were available (if they exist). Therefore some of the following is guesswork on our part.



  • 1-2: Poor quality.
  • 3-4: Fair quality. Lacking in high tones, suffering from volume drops, second generation recording.
  • 5-6: Good quality. May suffer from hiss or other tape problems.
  • 7-8: Very good quality.
  • 9-10: Excellent quality.

It then cuts to a different lone slow guitar riff followed by a faster guitar riff; neither ended up on the album. Both these latter riffs use echo extensively. The recording suffers from lots of hiss and some tape flutter.

70 cities - bit 1		(0:21)     3/10     A looped synth drone is followed by some bass experimentation by Derek and synth electro-doodlings. Hardly recognisable as any song. (It sounds like studio effects experimentation.)

Good, well balanced recording of a French concert from March 1982 with Mike Ogletree on drums. The version of Premonition stands out in particular with a long outro. Excellent mix but marred by distortion of the vocals in some of the songs and tape hiss during the quieter moments. Many subtle effects (such as those in Sweat In Bullet) really stand out. Definitely a soundboard recording and the audience are hardly heard except at the end of tracks.

Patchy and sometimes poor recording. The issues with the balance (especially the vocals) are ironed out during the gig and it's not until Promised You A Miracle that they're finally resolved. Additionally the recording is incomplete with the premature fade during I Travel (a split due to the concert being recorded on two tapes). The band also make mistakes: which is understandable as it's one of the first gigs on the back of the release of New Gold Dream (81,82,83,84).

I Travel is split into two halves (I assume they reached the end of the tape) and the first half of Love Song is missing.

A fairly good recording from a previously undocumented concert in Dallas during the New Gold Dream Tour. The only possible date could be in April 1983. All the songs featured are complete except for a fade-out at the end of Hunter And The Hunted (and it’s possible that Promised You A Miracle was played after Hunter but missed from this recording.) Unfortunately the recording is slightly flat and suffers from slight volume fluctuations at times.

Whilst all the components can be heard in the recording, and are well balanced, the volume is slightly flat (being knocked down by the louder parts of the concert) and the bass is slightly to high in the mix to be slightly jarring. The audience can only be heard at the end of the tracks. A pity the recording isn't better as this concert marked one of the first live appearances of Street Hassle.

Fairly good to good recording of the first Barrowlands concert. Much better quality than the various bootlegs knocking around. Unfortunately some songs are missing from the first half of the concert and The American has been cruely cut in half. The automatic volume takes a hit at times, but doesn't effect the overall enjoyment of the recording. East At Easter and Love Song have not been bootlegged. Interestingly there are also two edits of I Travel on the cassette suggesting this was a later mix and I Travel was being edited down for release.
